The other night I spent a wondrous evening directed of Holy Spirit as I studied the subject of "knowledge" and in particular that which would be classified as "forbidden knowledge." Please do not get the idea that I was messing around with a Ouija board and reading Horror-scopes as that was not the case. This research was more of learning of man's dilemma, of recognizing that which is forbidden from that which is Life giving. With this blog I opened with scriptures dealing with the tower of Babel and the "seeking of" and an "increase of" knowledge in the last days of this age as men frantically run to and fro. In the last few months I have observed, discussed and studied much on "New Age thought." With this foul philosophy, which of late has become mixed with Biblical Truth, the novitiates attempt to build there selfish tower to Heaven while proclaiming, "all mankind is one in God now." They say, "although a man's words and practices may be different we share the same religious language. Their mantra is, "God is every man's God, as you yourself are God." This is the foundation of their "tower" and each level is filled with dark spiritual knowledge that is oft mixed with Christ and even disguised with familiar Biblical verbiage. We are not talking innocent stuff here, as every kind of foul practice and ill conceived concept imaginable is taught with the use of familiar Christian terms. Such is the subtlety of this sweet poison as it sounds like Truth and looks like Truth, however it is produced from the wrong the vine of the wrong tree. The fruit of this New Age religion is rotten to the core and filled with death and corruption.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:2
The Bible tells us that which ascends to heaven must first descend, thus New Jerusalem and Zion is spoken of as coming down in contrast to the carnal and earthly religious towers which misguided men build from the ground up. Any that have studied New Jerusalem and Zion would know this heavenly city is made up of Jesus and his brethren, the company of sons within the Son." It is this supernal city which the world searches and groans for, as in this glorious metropolis is fullness of Life, Peace, and Joy, along with every other type of Eternal Heavenly bounty, all encompassed in Christ Jesus. This Holy Mountain, Zion is made up of the everlasting and Divine substance of Christ Himself, in whom all Truth dwells. Oh, how this Truth differs from the temporal and corruptible spiritual knowledge born of the realm of this fallen world by which men build their vain religious towers. The earth bound soul of man eschews the Cross of Christ where she must die to all the alluring affections of this world and that includes the world's temporal knowledge. Instead of seeking Truth, the Adamic soul seeks to fill it's God sized void by building a religious tower on prideful intellectual and dark spiritual knowledge. This tower because it is not built upon the foundation of Jesus can but only eventually fall in upon itself bringing ruination to the souls that found excitable industry in the building of such. How often have we sadly seen this and do we well know the difficulty of trying to warn those of their ill conceived efforts as they continue shoring up the walls of these aged towers of Babel. This sadness truly is only made more heartbreaking when we personally know and experience the fulfilment and glory of a life yielded to the knowledge of Christ Jesus, Whom possesses the only Truthful path to God and Life Eternal.
I never would have imagined the sources from which these New Age and New Tolerance camps would seek to garner knowledge. Necromancy, Eastern Religions, Ancient Magics and yes even scientific discovery is believed to hold secret knowledge of the path to God. This is the "forbidden knowledge" and it flies in the face of Christ Jesus, who is our wisdom.
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, 1Cor 1:30
Now please allow me to share a slightly altered (my alterations for continuity sake and added points to draw associations) message by Jacob Boehme who wrote at the turn of the 17th century. While these that proclaim their New Age revelations, as cutting edge Boehme shows us that this wayward knowledge is as old as Adam.
Adam sought the very same thing: to be separate from God and to exalt himself by this forbidden knowledge. Adam also understood that the two trees represented life on two planes of existence, heavenly and earthly.
Adam saw within himself two forms of being, one belonging to the paradisiacal world; and then he saw one also without, belonging to this world, and his soul imagined after the outward. Then came the command to him, Eat not of the mixed fruit of good and evil, lest ye die! But Adam continued to image after the earthly dominion; he imagined after the beasts and introduced himself into bestial lust, to eat and to generate as beasts do. He desired to live in himself and be Lord. (much of what is being taught by the New Age self help gurus is to "live from within your "self"") He thought he would eat both the paradisiacal and the forbidden fruit and so live forever; (there is a "never die message" also associated with many in this misguided group) but he had brought the earthly quality into the pure, celestial substance, and his light was being extinguished. The divine image was disappearing, the earthly appearing.
He could no longer live in obedience to the will of the Father; his lust for the earthly fruit overcame him. He sank into a deep sleep; and God saw that it was not possible for him to live in obedience, and let him sleep; sleep signifies death.
So Adam cast himself out from the majesty of God, with his own will. He could not continue to walk in his innocence, that he might have his confirmation in the divine way of production. He had turned from the speaking of the Word into self-will, lust, and speaking good and evil; and God’s good will perished in him. ( I would differ a little here as to the practices of this new group, in that they refuse to acknowledge evil altogether, instead believing everything is good. This is where the New Age co-title of "New Tolerance" comes into play, describing their lawless belief system where nothing is to be judged)
God had forbidden Adam his false desire, lust after earthly fruit and power and virtue; and Adam had no necessity for these things; he had the paradisiacal fruit, the Word of God, and no want or death. His eyes, which might have continued to see always and eternally the glory of God, closed in sleep. God permitted Adam to sleep; otherwise, in the power of fire, in his selfishness, he would have become a devil.
After eating of the tree of self-knowledge, of good and evil, by willing otherwise than God willed, man became unholy; he died to the holy, heavenly image, and lived in the awakened bestial image of the serpent. The animal being had swallowed up the celestial state, and Adam and Eve then had common flesh, hard bones, bestial members, and needed bestial clothing. The desire of a beast is only to nourish itself and to multiply itself. It hath no understanding of any higher thing. It hath its own spirit, whereby it liveth and groweth and consumeth itself. (truly the New Age philosophy is a self consumed one and thus ironically it will consume those that practice it.)
Lust originated in Adam, but thereupon his perverted desire began to be excited in the woman. Eve was then moved by her lust, which the devil awakened in her, and desiring to be skillful, she became foolish. The serpent said to her, Your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods. It is true that her earthly eyes were opened, and her spiritual eyes became closed; with earthly eyes, man cannot see the kingdom of God. (Within us there is the soul which is feminine and oft described as the woman. The spirit is masculine and when the soul/woman leads as it did in the garden with Eve first partaking of the fruit there is hell to pay. There is great benefit to understand and discern with regard to ourselves as to whether we are being led by the spirit or by the soul. I believe only in surrender to God in every situation can we find comfort and peace as the His Spirit leads. If I could ever give the key to safety in Christ and our progress in God it would be "surrender"....... "surrender" ........ "surrender all to God." We must learn to walk in a place of total surrender to Christ, and thus live safely and free from the whiles of the enemy.)
Folks, we are that which we eat and we must learn to discern that which is poisonous to our soul. Today as always the forbidden should not be treated as an invisible element of the surrounding spiritual landscape. An astute awareness is in order and we must be aware of that one rash person, that oversteps the bounds and gets the other person (that is, all the rest of us) in trouble. It's be the oldest story ever told. Euripides once said, "To know too much is never wise. And a wise man keeps his distance from those who want to know too much."
That pretty good advice too.
In closing I want to share an ancient myth that I learned of in school decades ago. I believe there is a lesson in it.
The Myth of Patheon
The myth stated that Phaethon bragged to his friends that his father was the sun-god. One of his friends, who was rumored to be a son of Zeus, refused to believe him and said his mother was lying. So Phaeton went to his father Helios, who swore by the river Styx to give Phaeton anything he should ask for in order to prove his divine paternity. Phaeton wanted to drive his chariot (the sun) for a day. Though Helios tried to talk him out of it, Phaeton was adamant. When the day came, Phaeton panicked and lost control of the mean horses that drew the chariot. First it veered too high, so that the earth grew chill. Then it dipped too close, and the vegetation dried and burned. He accidentally turned most of Africa into desert; burning the skin of the Ethiopians black. Eventually, Zeus was forced to intervene by striking the runaway chariot with a lightning bolt to stop it, and Phaëthon plunged into the river Eridanos. His sisters the Heliades grieved so much that they were turned into poplar trees that weep golden amber.
Today there is a whole crowd of intrepid Phaethons recklessly driving their chariots through the spiritual landscape and they are laying waste to a multitude of careless souls. Let us beware and warn others of this New Age religion which is exploding into epidemic proportions within the church. With that said, let us end this message with these wise words of sister Kilpatrick. I pray you take this to heart and find your rest in Him, for He is able to keep us against that day.
I would rather move Him than understand Him.
I would desire to wring my broken heart before Him than exercise my mind about Him.
I would prefer to be ignorant and in the desperation of bewildered love than informed and.....blind.
